Which AJT Key Fob Fits Your 4Runner? IF004 vs IF011 vs IF015

Which AJT Key Fob Fits Your 4Runner? IF004 vs IF011 vs IF015

The factory 4Runner key fob does its job, but it's a just a thin plastic clamshell with a key ring hole that loves to snap. AJT Design's Injection Fob replaces the whole factory case with a two-piece shell that bolts together with real screws - tougher, better looking, and available in colors that actually match your truck.

There are three versions, and picking the wrong one is the most common mistake. Here's how to get the right fob the first time.

First: What Kind of Key Do You Have?

Look at your key, not just your model year:

  • Traditional keyed fob (you turn a physical key in the ignition) - most 4Runners.
  • Push-button start smart key - 5th Gen Limited models.

That distinction decides everything below.

IF004 — 3rd & 4th Gen 4Runner (1996–2009) — $33

AJT Design Injection Fob IF004 for 3rd and 4th gen Toyota 4Runner

Shop the IF004 - available in 8 colors (each color is its own listing): Army Green, Green, White, Blue, Quicksand, Black, Red, Cement.

For (some) 3rd and 4th Gen 4Runners with the older-style keyed fob. If your key is from the 1996–2009 era and the factory case is getting brittle, this is your fob. It reuses your existing electronics, battery, buttons, and seal - just in a tougher shell - and includes the panic button. The beefed-up key ring hole alone fixes the most common factory failure.

IF011 — 5th Gen Without Push-Button Start (2010–2024) — $39

AJT Design Injection Fob IF011 for 5th gen Toyota 4Runner

Shop the IF011 - available in 8 colors (each color is its own listing): Cavalry Blue, Army Green, Quicksand, Black, Red, Voodoo Blue, Cement, White.

The one most 4Runner owners need. Fits 5th Gen 4Runners without push-button start — the standard keyed fob most SR5, TRD Off-Road, and TRD Pro trucks came with. Same deal: your key blade, electronics, battery, and transponder chip move into the new case. No reprogramming, no dealer visit.

IF015 — 5th Gen Limited With Push-Button Start (2010–2019) — $39

AJT Design Injection Fob IF015 for 5th gen Toyota 4Runner Limited

Shop the IF015 - available in 8 colors (each color is its own listing): Cavalry Blue, Army Green, Blue, Red, Quicksand, Black, White, Cement.

Got a Limited with push-button start? You need the IF015, not the IF011 — the smart-key fob is a different shape. This one is cut for the 2010–2019 5th Gen Limited smart key. If your 4Runner has push-button start, double-check your key style against the product page before ordering.

Colors

Every fob comes in 8 colors, so you can match your paint or go loud. Black is the safe pick. Cement, Quicksand, and Army Green are the ones that look like they came from the factory on the right truck.

What to Know Before You Swap the Case

A few things from AJT's own instructions, worth reading before you order:

  • Your electronics are reused. Key blade, circuit board, battery, and transponder chip all transfer into the new case. Nothing needs reprogramming.
  • The OEM case doesn't survive the swap. The factory key is molded into its case, so the old shell gets destroyed pulling it out. If you want to keep a stock key intact, you'd need a separate OEM shell.
  • Assembly is simple. The two halves bolt together with socket head cap screws — no snap-fit wrestling. A 7/64" allen key is included.
  • Skip the threadlocker. AJT specifically says not to use threadlocker (like Loctite) on the screws.
  • Made in the USA from high-strength, impact-resistant ABS plastic (black is PC-ABS).

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to reprogram anything after swapping the case?

No. You're moving your existing electronics, battery, and transponder into the new shell - the truck never knows the difference.

Will my key blade still work?

Yes. The original key blade transfers into the AJT case. No re-cutting needed.

Can I go back to the stock fob later?

Only if you have another OEM shell to rebuild into - the original case is destroyed during the swap. Most people never look back.

I have a 2020+ 4Runner with push-button start — which fob?

The IF015 is listed for 2010–2019 Limited. If your truck is newer, compare your key's shape carefully against the product photos and fitment notes before ordering.

How tough is the AJT case compared to stock?

It's injection-molded ABS that bolts together with screws instead of snapping shut, with a reinforced key ring hole - built for the exact failure points of the factory case. That said, treat the transponder chip gently during the transfer; AJT notes that damaging it can stop the key from starting the truck.

Which color should I get?

Black disappears into a pocket and suits everything. If you want the fob to match the truck, Cement, Quicksand, Army Green, and Cavalry Blue line up with popular 4Runner colors.
