4Runner Wheel Fitment: Why Rocktrix is winning the 5th and 6th Gen Game

If you’ve been looking at new wheels for your 4Runner, you’ve probably noticed two things: the big-name brands are getting ridiculously expensive, and the cheap "no-name" stuff on Amazon looks like it would shatter the second you aired down.

We’ve been watching Rocktrix take over a lot of the Toyota forums lately, and it's mostly because they found a middle ground that didn't really exist before. You get a wheel that can actually handle a trail without the massive "brand name tax" tacked onto the price.

The 6th Gen curveball

If you’re planning on upgrading to the new 2025+ 6th Gen 4Runner, don’t assume your old wheels will just swap over. Toyota changed things up. While the bolt pattern is still the classic 6x139.7, the hub size is smaller (95.1mm) and the lugs are beefier (M14). If you try to force old 5th Gen wheels onto a 6th Gen, you’re going to have fitment issues and probably some nasty vibration. Rocktrix already has sets specifically drilled for the new 6th Gen specs, so you aren't guessing if they'll fit right when they show up at your door.

Why the -12mm offset is the "sweet spot"

One of the most common things people search for is how to get that wider stance without using wheel spacers. Most 4Runner owners aren't big fans of spacers—they’re just another point of failure. A 17x9 wheel with a -12mm offset is basically the setup most people are looking for. It pushes the tires out just enough to give you that aggressive "poke" beyond the fenders, and more importantly, it gives you the clearance you need to run 33s (285s) without rubbing your upper control arms. It’s a cleaner way to get the look and the performance at the same time.

Better than TRD Pros?

TRD Pro wheels are fine, but they’re skinny. They’re usually only 7 or 7.5 inches wide. When you put a 285 tire on a skinny wheel, the sidewall bulges out, which isn't ideal for handling. Rocktrix wheels are 9 inches wide, which supports the tire better and makes the whole truck feel more planted, especially if you’re loaded down with gear.

The Quick Breakdown

For 5th Gen owners, you need to make sure you're getting the 106.1mm bore. If you've moved up to the 6th Gen, look for the 95.1mm bore and M14 lug compatibility. For the stance, go with the -12mm offset if you want that wider look. Most importantly, these are hub-centric, meaning they actually fit your Toyota properly so you aren't shaking down the highway.

At the end of the day, wheels are meant to get scratched and used. Rocktrix gives you a solid, hub-centric wheel that looks great but doesn't make you want to cry when you get a little rock rash on the trail.
